About Poppy Frocks

Poppy Frocks is an English dressmaking company that offers handmade-to-order frocks with three different sleeve styles, made in a small selection of carefully chosen fabrics. Each month, frocks will be available in three fabrics (either 100% cotton or 100% linen), allowing customers to build a collection over time.

Poppy Frocks began with a dress I couldn't find. For years, I searched for a simple, well-made dress with a generous skirt, practical (but pretty!) sleeves and buttoned backs. Time and again, I found myself disappointed by dresses that felt poorly made and were cut with far less fabric than they deserved, creating a limp silhouette.

So I started making my own.

Over the last ten years, I have refined and worn variations of the same shape, gradually arriving at what I believe is the perfect everyday frock: simple, comfortable, practical yet pretty and easy to wear throughout the year.

As well as a dressmaker, I am also an interior designer, and many of the principles that guide my work are mirrored in my frocks - a preference for natural materials, thoughtful design and things that improve with age. I have little interest in trends. Instead, I am drawn to objects that earn their place through usefulness and longevity.

Poppy Frocks are designed to be worn properly. They are not occasion dresses or pieces to be kept for best. They are intended for everyday life, whatever that may involve. My hope is that a Poppy Frock becomes a familiar part of your wardrobe: worn often, mended when needed, and kept for many years to come.
